When looking up a diet for a uric acid patient, usually you will find that it is recommended to cut out meat.
This is not the case. Proteins can be included in the foods for uric acid treatment. There are two key foods that should be avoided to prevent and treat gout or high uric acid levels.

High levels of uric acid in the body causes gout, a painful condition where the excess uric acid crystalizes within the joints. While these crystals can occur in other body parts too such as the kidneys, the joints, particularly in the big toe, are the most common area. The uric acid crystals cause inflammation, swelling, pain, and stiffness.
For years the medical community has been telling people to avoid meat and fish. This advice is incorrect. A low carb high protein diet can be just as effective as harmful medications.

What Are Purines
As you will see in this table, the increase in uric acid levels caused by the purines (a building block in the DNA of every living thing whether in plants, humans, or animals) in food is actually very small. Too small to cause a build-up. In fact, purines may actually help your body to excrete more purines. Protein, a very important part of our diet, should be a part of our uric acid diet menu.
It is important to keep your uric acid levels under control not just because gout is painful, but because if left unchecked, these crystals can cause damage.
What Really Causes High Uric Acid Levels
Fructose and alcohol. The way these two things are metabolized in the body (digested and used) cause an increase in uric acid levels. What’s more is that they also cause the body to excrete less of the uric acid which then causes a build-up of uric acid in the body.
While alcohol is pretty easy to avoid, fructose is in a surprising amount of foods. Not only is it the predominant form of sugar in fruit (which can contribute but not as badly as processed foods) but fructose is also used in candy, soda, and even some condiments and breakfast cereals.
The Indian Diet for Uric Acid Patients
Although there is protein in most whole foods, when it comes to plant foods, you need to ensure that you eat a wide variety of them and include specific foods to ensure that you get all the amino acids (the building blocks of protein) that you need. One of the nutrients that are the best for lowering uric acid levels in the body is vitamin C. While you can definitely benefit from taking a good quality vitamin C supplement you can also include vitamin C rich foods in your diet.
